POLISH ACTIVITY ABOUT GENDER, GENDER IDENTITY AND GENDER EXPRESSION
PARTICIPANTS: 8 children 4/5 years old
DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
We used our cards of “jobs’ memory” (our activity with children 5/6 years) to propose this activity, the pictures show a lot of jobs carried out by males and females.
Teacher describes a profession without pronouns about gender, for example:
“This person has a stethoscope…”, “This person drives in the sky…”, “This person goes in a boat with a net….”
When children guessed the job, teacher showed a pictures were was “not traditional roles” (es: female pilot…)
After, we discussed about this topic and children painted who they want to be in the future.
EVALUATION AND RESULTS
Children put a lot of attention to predict the jobs and they were very surprised to discover a picture with males and females that make a “not traditional job”.
However, all the children was very convinced that all the people can have all the jobs
After, teacher asked to children to paint their future job, some children designed a job “out of stereotypes”.
By this activity we implemented the project and we could observe and value a lot of competences:
– To stay together to listen and discuss about this topic
– To prevent stereotypes about gender
– To concentrate about one question and predicted something
– To imagine our future
